John Choi's Campaign is a Deliberate Deception
Little Armenia-East Hollywood May 10, 2013: John Choi and his campaign have taken the Little Armenia community hostage. For the last four weeks, Choi’s campaign has been intimidating, manipulating, and deceiving the Armenian immigrant, first-time voters in Little Armenia. Recently, the Little Armenia Neighborhood Association and community leaders learned that Choi’s campaign strategist has a habit to use such campaign tactics to attempt to divide ethnic community voters. It is simple to manipulate weak immigrant communities because of minimum knowledge of voter education and voter rights. Mike Shimpock, who is John Choi’s campaign strategist, is using false allegations and misleading information directed at immigrant voters who are easy targets to deceive, manipulate, and intimidate. For the record, during previously managed campaigns, Mr. Mike Shimpock proved that his tactics work well among immigrants and least participating voters because they are easy to target. For example, about two weeks ago the Choi campaign alleged the “brandishing of a gun” in Little Armenia. Later we learned that the police report was filed 36 hours later by someone from Encino. The Little Armenia Neighborhood Association is demanding the LAPD and the investigators at Northeast Police Station to hold those, who filed the FALSE police report, responsible for wasting law-enforcement time in order to get a media headline. The majority of Armenian-American voters in Little Armenia are first time voters and senior citizens who don’t speak English, thus, making them a perfect target for such despicable campaign means and tactics.
In the Council District 13 primary election, Mr. Sam Kbushyan managed to organize and encourage high voter participation through grassroots outreach. Mr. Kbushyan made headlines coming in a strong third place from the pool of 12 candidates. Every voter in the Little Armenia community knows Mr. Sam Kbushyan and his family. For the runoff on May 21st, Kbushyan endorsed Mitch O’Farrell and encouraged his Armenian-American supporters to join him by voting for O’Farrell.
The Choi campaign and his political machine stepped up the game by using false inforamtion. In order to deceive and manipulate the Armenian-American voters of Little Armenia, Choi campaign Armenian voter field coordinator Hrag Kitsinian was hired to conduct the field operations and canvassing. Accordingly, Mr. Hrag Kitsinian is an experienced political field operator, his connection and experience working with the Armenian community and voters comes from the recent City of Glendale elections. Mr. Kitsinian and his team closely studied the names of O'Farrell campaign Armenian Staff and Volunteers. For reader’s attention, City of Glendale has a high number of Armenian votes and almost every election cycle there are a few Armenian-American candidates competing against each-other for various public office positions. Mr. Kitsinian has been schooled and has in-depth knowledge working with Armenian voters. This adds up to the suspicion thread because the same Glendale election tactics are being used against the Armenian voters in Little Armenia.
The game plan is to misinform, intimidate, and hold hostage the voters. Mr. Kitsinian and his team used Mr. Sam Kbushyan’s name to enter Armenian voters’ homes and hence find different means and methods to lie to voters—especially senior citizens—by telling them that Sam Kbushyan and all Armenians have joined Choi’s campaign and support him. Not knowing better, many of these Armenian voters trusted the Armenian speaking canvassers and allowed them to fill out their Absentee Ballots and take the ballots from their homes under the name of Sam Kbushyan’s trusted volunteers.
John Choi, Mike Shimpock and their Deliberate Deception Machine must stop using un-democratic campaign tactics to harass and misinform Armenian voters in Little Armenia. The Little Armenia Neighborhood Association along with all of the community based organizations and leaders condemn the Choi and Shimpock political strategy that destroys the civic trust of the Armenian voters.
